Deer Creek Valley Ranch Engagement Session – Jeana & Jake

Jeana and Jake...where do I even start with these two? From their super adorable dog to the endless smiles and jokes, Jeana and Jake had me laughing through their entire engagement session. I left with my cheeks hurting from smiling so much, and usually that's the couples, not the photographer! These two just know how to have a good time, and if their Deer Creek Canyon Ranch engagement session was any indication of what their wedding day is going to look like, I can already tell it is going to be so. freaking. fun.

Deer Creek Canyon Ranch is such a stunning Colorado engagement session location, and honestly it doesn't get nearly enough credit. Nestled in the foothills in Bailey, Colorado, it has this beautiful wide open, rustic Colorado feel that photographs incredibly. The rolling landscape, the big mountain sky, the golden light filtering through at golden hour makes it all comes together in a way that feels effortless and romantic without being overdone. If you're looking for a Colorado engagement session location that feels a little different from the usual Boulder or Denver spots, this one absolutely deserves to be on your radar.

I get asked all the time whether I'm okay with couples bringing their dogs to their engagement sessions, and my answer is always, always yes. Yes yes yes yes yes. I love dogs,  and since my husband still says we can't get one (yet), getting to snuggle on my clients' puppies helps fill that void in my life just a little bit! Jeana and Jake's absolutely adorable dog made his photo debut with us at this session, and I think he may have stolen the show just a little. He was so cute and so much fun to photograph. Just wait until you see him jump!!

As a Colorado engagement photographer, one of my favorite things about sessions like this one is how much a couple's personality shapes the entire experience. My process is always about following a couple's energy. I come with a plan, but I stay flexible, because the best moments are almost never the ones you choreograph. They're the ones that happen when everyone is relaxed and laughing and just being themselves. With Jeana and Jake, that happened right from the get go. I barely had to do a thing except keep up with them and stay ready because these two were natural, joyful, and completely in their element together from start to finish. That kind of genuine connection between two people is what makes a gallery truly special, and this one has it in spades.
