See how specific that is? This isn’t just a post telling you to have an engagement session, but to do one with the photographer you’ve hired for your wedding. Everyone has a camera these days, and everyone considers themselves an amateur photographer. I’m sure your friend from work or your uncle will take beautiful engagement photos for you. But there are some really important reasons why you should do them with your hired photographer instead.
1. Your wedding photos will be better
I don’t mean technically better because I can still take amazing photos of a couple I’ve never photographed before on their wedding day. I mean better in the sense that all these little things will come together and make your photos just a little bit…better. Working together beforehand gives me the chance to get to know how you two pose together. Every couple is different, and not every couple looks amazing in the same pose. People fit together differently. Your engagement session is my time to learn how you two work, so when your wedding day rolls around I already know what poses work best for you. I learn if you two are naturally bubbly in front of the camera, or if you need a bit more coaching to open up. This plays a huge factor in making your photos more authentic to who you are as a couple. And who doesn’t want that in their wedding photos?
2. You’ll be more comfortable around me
When I do an engagement session with my couples, it gives us the chance to get to know each other a little better. It definitely helps you feel more comfortable with me. I’m going to be spending the majority of your wedding day with you, it’s crucial for you to feel at ease in front of my camera if you’re comfortable around me. That leads to you being more relaxed, which leads to more natural candid photos.
3. It’s one less thing to stress about
Photos can be a really uncomfortably thing for a lot of people! It’s perfectly normal to not feel natural in front of the camera, or that you’re not photogenic (you are, trust me). Working together before you wedding day can help alleviate some of those nerves. You’ll already know how I work and what I’ll have you do. Hopefully, you’ll remember how easy it was and how much fun you had! And you will already know that you really ARE photogenic and can feel natural in front of a camera with the right coaching! If we don’t do an engagement session, all of those pre-photos nerves will still be there on your wedding day. You have enough to stress about on your big day, let’s get this one out of the way!
4. It’s FUN!
No, really, it is! I know your groom is probably not jazzed about photos, and you might be nervous about it yourself, but I promise, you’ll be surprised how good of a time you had when it’s all said and done! Plus, you’re already dressed up, treat it as an excuse to have a date night! Go to dinner or out for drinks once your photos are wrapped up and just celebrate being engaged! And any fears or concerns you or your fiance have about photos will vanish after doing your engagement session!
